Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.- 1 Cor. 14:1
Here, Paul puts love and spiritual gifts in the same category. If you read 1 Corinthians 13, you realize that Paul says if you have to choose just one, then make sure it is love. Spiritual gifts without love are nothing more than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Nevertheless Paul says, be eager for spiritual gifts. I heard the line a million times growing up, “Seek the giver and not the gifts.” You might think that it is directly from scripture, but it is not. In fact, it is not biblical at all. We are to be eager. Scripture actually says that we should desire spiritual gifts. In doing so you have to seek the giver. You can’t get the gifts without HIM.
Especially desire to prophesy. Ask God for the gift. When you learn to hear God, He will begin to speak to you about other people and situations. When you hear something for another person you become responsible for what you do with that information. Learn to share what God speaks to you in Love. God will begin manifesting in your life in powerful ways when you learn to do this.
