“As he was going along, approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” So he said, “Who are you, Lord?” He replied, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting!” – Acts 9:3-7
What an amazing encounter. The amazing thing is that this young man, Saul (who became known as Paul) was so zealously serving God, while totally missing God. Sincerity and zeal are nothing if you aren’t doing what God truly wants.
Paul answers the voice of Jesus from heaven and addresses him as “Lord.” He was killing people who believed in this heavenly voice. I would love it if every sincere and zealous person who believes they are truly doing God’s will, but are actually fighting Him, could have this kind of God encounter.
Many claim that God wouldn’t do that today. He now only speaks through the Bible. Can you imagine the wake up call?
That is what happened to me. I was on the floor of my living room seeing a vision of angels and swords and helmets. Just 7 days before, I had been correcting a teenager who wanted to share visions that God had given him at our youth meetings.
“Lord, forgive me for my religious arrogance that would block Your message. Thank you for busting down my walls!”
