After Jesus was baptized, … the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my one dear Son; in him I take great delight.” – Matthew 3:16-17
It was Jesus’ baptism. A special day. A time to celebrate. It marks a beginning point of Jesus’ season of ministry. Times like these are the times when a Father’s presence or absence is most felt.
We are not told if Jesus’ mother was there. We don’t know if Joseph, his earthly Dad was there. But His FATHER was present and set for us an example of some words every son longs to hear, needs to hear.
They are words that many fathers struggle to give to their sons. Some fathers feel that if they approve of their sons, they are condoning their bad behavior, or that their sons will become proud. Some are just afraid because they aren’t sure what to say. They may never have received a Father’s blessing.
Jesus did receive it. Father God did give it. “This is my dear Son, in Him I take great delight.”
Bless your sons and daughters today. Be like God.
