Now Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. – Acts 6:8 – Deacon Hall of Fame!
Stephen was a young man and he had been chosen to be a deacon. The apostles needed to focus on prayer and preaching the word. They needed some guys to help coordinate logistics for this new movement. They needed some guys to oversee the care of the widows and to wait on tables.
If there was a Deacon Hall of Fame, I know it would be named after Stephen. What makes this so special, is that Stephen was not an apostle, but he did the same things that the apostles were doing. The power of God was not reserved for just the 12. It was even available for those who served tables and served in the ministry of helps.
That is the exciting part about reading the New Testament. God has given us everything that He gave to His apostles, to the 72, to men like Stephen and Agabus. We can aspire to be in the Deacon Hall of Fame! –if there was such a place….
Lord, let us live lives, full of grace and power, performing great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. All who were sitting in the council looked intently at Stephen and saw his face was like the face of an angel. – Acts 6:15
You received the law by decrees given by angels, but you did not obey it.” – Acts 7:53
