My conversation and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not be based on human wisdom but on the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
In this scripture, Paul is giving the reason that he ministered in the demonstration of the Spirit and power. Paul wanted the listeners to have a faith that was not based upon human wisdom, but on God’s power.
We see God’s power operating in Paul’s life and ministry in so many ways. He healed the sick, raised the dead, listened to angels, had God show up at his conversion and in his daily life.
Should we be involved in ministry today that is based upon human wisdom? Or should we hunger for and seek to minister in the same way that Paul did? Do our churches and ministries today reflect the reality of this passage?
If what we are experiencing today does not reflect what we read in scripture, what needs to change? Should we adapt our understanding of what the author intended to say to make ourselves feel more comfortable, or should we cry out to God to change us and help us to live the New Testament type of Christianity?
A lot of questions. What do YOU say?
