“And the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my one dear Son; in you I take great delight.” – Luke 3:32

I love my kids so much and am so proud of them that I can brag on them to the point of being obnoxious. Each of my kids is amazing. I tell them all the time that I love them. I cook for them. I do a ton of things for them, so I was certain that they knew, “I take great delight” in them.

I was taking one of my sons to a movie, and I asked him, “Do I ever make you feel like you aren’t good enough or that you can never please me?” His head dropped a little and he told me, “Yeah, some times.” WOW! I honestly couldn’t believe it. I tried not to show my surprise and I simply said, “Can you tell me about it?”

As he shared, I realized that sometimes what I thought would be encouragement sent a different message. So I said, “If I have convinced others by my bragging that you are amazing but failed to let you know that I ‘Take great delight in you,’ then I have failed.” I spent the rest of the evening sharing my real perspective of Him and how much delight he is to me.

Be like God! Let your children know that you take great delight in them.
