“I am telling the truth in Christ (I am not lying!), for my conscience assures me in the Holy Spirit” Romans 9:1

Paul is about to tell the Israelites how much He loves them and how deep his affection is for them. He wants to express the magnitude of his emotion, depth of love and sincerity of what he is expressing. Paul pulls the God card. His conscience and the Holy Spirit working together assure him that what he is about to speak is true.

Sometimes we can say the words, “I am committed”, or “I will pray for you”. But our conscience tells us that our words don’t line up with our heart or our actions. Am I alone, or is anyone out there with me? Sometimes, you know you are serious.

Our conscience and the Holy Spirit let us know what is in our heart. Are we being sincere? Are we “for real” in what we are saying? What does the Holy Spirit and our conscience tell us?
