After Jesus called the twelve together, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. – Luke 9:1-2
What did Jesus train His disciples to do?
In the Great Commission Jesus said, “teach them everything I have commanded you.” Does that include preaching the Kingdom of God and healing the sick? Do we have power and authority over demons, and to cure diseases?
Were these guys super saints, or was Jesus establishing a pattern of what we should be teaching and training ordinary people, as He taught the twelve to do and to be? If Jesus was the great disciple-maker and this is what He did in making disciples, then what does this say about our modern discipleship? What does it say about your life? Have you truly been His disciple? Are you doing the things that Jesus trained 12 ordinary guys to do?
These are challenging and yet worthwhile questions.
