Suddenly a sound like a violent wind blowing came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were sitting. And tongues spreading out like a fire appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them. – Acts 2:2-4
Look what happened when a group of people prayed unceasingly for 10 days. 10 days! They had no idea how long it would take. They just did what God told them to do. “Wait in Jerusalem until you are endued with power.” Imagine what that waiting was like!
OK, so they had seen the resurrected Jesus. They still must have wondered as 1 day turned to 2 days and then 5 and then a week. “Did we miss it? Did we misunderstand what Jesus told us?”
They had the best training in the Word that has ever been given. They had experience in ministry. But they did what Jesus had told them. They waited. And waited. And waited. For TEN WHOLE DAYS, they waited!
What would happen if we would wait upon the Lord like that?
Who would be willing to do that?
Who would want stuff like that to happen?
When this sound occurred, a crowd gathered and was in confusion, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Completely baffled, they said, “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that each one of us hears them in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and the province of Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs – we hear them speaking in our own languages about the great deeds God has done!” – Acts 2:6-11
“Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a sick man – by what means this man was healed – let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands before you healthy. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved.” – Acts 4:8-12
Let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands before you healthy. – John 4:9-10
