“These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and whatever poison they drink will not harm them; they will place their hands on the sick and they will be well.” Mark 16:17-18
THOSE WHO BELIEVE. These signs will accompany those who believe. Some say this passage was added to the Bible. Some wish that it was removed. If these signs weren’t in my life, I would be tempted to remove this passage. I know the arguments about the age of manuscripts and which ones came first, etc. If you don’t know what I’m talking about in that last sentence, it’s really not important, so don’t worry about it.
What are the signs in someone’s life that they believe? Who determines that? JESUS? I believe that the fruit of the Spirit is evidence of the Spirit’s work in someone’s life. What about Spiritual gifts that are supernatural? The things Jesus spoke of here are all supernatural acts of God.
Is there enough evidence of the supernatural in your life that if you were put on trial for being a Christian, you could be convicted of being this type of believer? Do these signs follow you? Does this motivate you to press closer to God for more—or are you more inclined to remove this passage from the Bible?
